WhatsApp’s end-to-end encrypted chat backup is a long-awaited feature, especially for privacy-conscious users. WhatsApp now seems to be starting to roll out features for some beta testers. This feature was announced by Facebook earlier this year and will allow users to choose between 64-bit encryption keys and cloud-based keys with passwords. Your data will be stored in either Google Drive or iCloud, but everything will be encrypted before uploading.

According to a WABetaInfo report, this feature is available in WhatsApp version 2.21.21.5, but it is not yet available to all users. According to the report, it will continue to be rolled out with subsequent app updates. Currently, this feature gives users the option to back up their chats in an encrypted way, but it doesn’t work if the user forgets their password. WhatsApp cannot regain access if you lose your password, whether it’s a 64-bit key or a personal passcode.

Facebook-owned instant messaging apps also encourage users to support multiple devices. WhatsApp recently explained how multi-device support works behind the scenes, especially when it comes to security. According to WhatsApp, all devices get the same level of end-to-end encryption and security as the primary phone with WhatsApp configured.
