WhatsApp deploys end-to-end encrypted chat backup globally: how to enable

WhatsApp has finally begun rolling out end-to-end encrypted chat backups for iOS and Android users, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Thursday.

This feature allows users to enable an optional additional layer of protection for their iCloud and Google Drive accounts as needed. “By deploying this, we have completed the final step in providing a complete end-to-end encrypted messaging experience,” said a popular Facebook-owned messaging application.

“Now you can protect your end-to-end encrypted backups with a password of your choice or a 64-digit encryption key that only you know. WhatsApp and backup service providers can read and lock backups. You don’t have access to the keys needed to unlock it, “he added.

To create an end-to-end encrypted backup:

-Open the settings.

—[チャット]>[チャットバックアップ]>[エンドツーエンドの暗号化バックアップ]Tap.

—[続行]Tap and follow the prompts to create a password or key.

—[完了]Tap and wait for WhatsApp to prepare an end-to-end encrypted backup. You may need to connect to a power source.

Note: If you lose WhatsApp chat and forget your password or key, you will not be able to restore your backup. WhatsApp cannot reset passwords or restore backups.

How to turn off end-to-end encrypted backups:

—[設定]Open.

—[チャット]>[チャットバックアップ]>[エンドツーエンドの暗号化バックアップ]Tap.

—[オフにする]Tap.

-Enter your password.

—[オフにする]Tap to make sure you turn off encrypted backups.

This new feature enables end-to-end encrypted backups, from sending to forwarding, receiving, and saving to the cloud.

“This feature allows people to enhance the privacy and security of their digital conversations. This is a responsibility we don’t underestimate. With this in mind, we have consistent and reliable users for iOS and Android users around the world. We are slowly rolling this out to provide an experience, “the company added.

WhatsApp temporarily enabled the WhatsApp beta feature for the Android 2.21.15.5 update to protect backups on Google Drive from unauthorized access. It was disabled later in the 2.21.15.7 beta update for Android users. This time it was re-enabled on iOS and then on Android.

Users should be aware of passwords or encryption keys, as WhatsApp cannot recover chat history if it is lost. Every time the user needs to restore their chat history, they have to enter their password or 64-bit encryption key.
