Twenty-nine Hindu homes were set on fire during Bangladesh violence: Report

In the ongoing community violence in Bangladesh, fundamentalists once again targeted Hindus.News reports claim that a group of assailants burned 29 Hindu homes during a protest against the demolition of a temple by a minority community during the Durga Pugja Festival last week.

A Hindu home was targeted in Peerganj village in the Lampuru district late Sunday night, according to a report from BDNews24.Com.

The report quoted Lampuru SP Mohammad Kamaljaman, saying a Facebook post spread rumors that a young Hindu man in the village “insulted religion” and then police rushed there. Police were reportedly stationed outside the man’s house, and attackers fired at other houses. According to the fire department, 29 homes, 2 kitchens, 2 barns and 20 dry grass piles were on fire in the Piroganj Majhipara district. It is also said that an “uncontrolled mob” fired.

The report states that the fire department will be able to obtain information about the fire at 9:45 pm on Sunday night and control the fire by Monday morning. Currently, there is no news of casualties in this incident. According to information, after the blasphemy charges, a case spread that set fire to Durgap Japan Dal in the Comira region due to community tensions. Last week’s incident in the Comira area was an attack on Hindu temples and between police and attackers in several districts, including Comira, Chandpur, Chatgram, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarbang, Maulbi Bazaar, Gazipur and Feni. It led to a conflict.

After the attack, many people were reportedly arrested for spreading the hatred of the community on social media.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Interior Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Sunday called the attacks on the Durga Puja Pavilion “pre-planned” and said they were aimed at destroying the harmony of the Bangladeshi community.

This happened after multiple lawsuits were filed against hundreds of named and unnamed people on Wednesday’s attack on Comira, Daka Tribune reported.
