The United States is closely monitoring the trade situation between China and Australia, said US Trade Representative Katherine Tai.

She spoke at a meeting with Australia’s Minister of Trade, Tourism and Investment Dan Tehan on Wednesday.

According to media announcements, Thailand has informed Tehan that the United States is working with Australia on this common challenge to support rules-based international trade.

They said they had discussed the importance and strength of bilateral trade relations supported by the US-Australia Free Trade Agreement.

“During the talks, the Thai ambassador said the United States was closely monitoring the trade situation between Australia and China,” the USTR said in a statement.

Thailand has announced that the United States is working with Australia to tackle this common challenge and support rule-based international trade to promote fair and market-oriented trade practices.

“Thailand has reiterated its commitment to engaging allies, including Australia, to address China’s state-led non-market practices that harm workers, businesses and citizens,” the statement said.

Thailand and Taehan said they welcomed ongoing senior-level discussions on dealing with non-market practices, including economic coercion.

They also discussed reforms of the World Trade Organization in the Indo-Pacific, supply chain resilience, and regional economic cooperation, the statement said.
