A total of 8,276 cases of dengue fever have been recorded by November 27 this season, according to a public report on vector-borne diseases released on Monday.

The total number of cases of dengue reported in the last few years was 4,431 (2016), 4,726 (2017), 2,798 (2018), 2,036 (2019) and 1,072 (2020).

In 2015, the city witnessed a large outbreak of dengue fever. The number of reported cases of dengue exceeded 10,600 in October, making it the worst vector infection outbreak in the capital since 1996.

By November 6, this year, the total number of cases was 2,708, and the official death toll from dengue fever was nine.

Among the nine who have recently succumbed to dengue fever are a 3-year-old girl and a minor boy. A 63-year-old man who is a resident of Rohini also died of dengue fever.

In September, 217 cases were recorded. This is the maximum number for the month in three years.

This is also the highest number of dengue deaths recorded in the city in a year since 2017, when the officially reported death toll was 10.

Prior to 2020, the death toll from dengue was -2 (2019). 4 (2018); 10 (2017); and 10 (2016), according to official aggregates maintained by SDMC.
