Newly appointed Australian test captain Pat Cummins said he is aiming to take a “cooperative approach” to lead the team. Cummins was announced as captain on Friday, with former skipper Steve Smith becoming the former deputy captain of Ash.

The 28-year-old said he aims to allow other players to own their role within the team. “I’m, of course, a very calm person. I’m very positive. I rely on everyone. I’m a big person to allow individuals to own their role,” Cummins said. I told the media right after the announcement.

“It will be a true collaborative approach (to leadership). It may look a little different from what it looks like compared to past captains. That’s great,” said the fast bowler.

Cummins said the announcement was a moving moment for him and his family. “Mom and dad were very excited and had a few tears. It’s a really special time. Everyone is really happy and proud,” he said.

Cummins made his test debut as one of the youngest Australians in history when he played his first match at the age of 18 in 2011. However, after that, he was absent from the test cricket due to an injury and continued until he returned. It has become the longest game format on the 2017 Australia Tour of India. Since then, Cummins has been recognized as the best test bowler in the world, winning 164 wickets with 34 wickets at a strike rate of 47.1.

Cummins said he is currently captain of this format and does not intend to take a break from test cricket to manage his workload. “I’m very skeptical of resting from test cricket. I’ve never rested from a test cricket match, so I don’t think it’s going to start now,” he said.
