Taliban commander killed and 11 injured in blast

Jalalabad: A bomb broke a vehicle carrying a Taliban police chief in eastern Afghanistan on Thursday, killing him and injuring 11 people, officials said.
The explosion occurred in Asadabad, the capital of Kunar, targeting the Taliban police chief in the Cigar district, according to Muslim group officials.
“The police chief died and 11 were injured,” he told AFP on condition of anonymity.
Doctors at Kunal Central Hospital confirmed to AFP that they had accepted 11 injured, including four Taliban fighters and seven civilians.
No one claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Islamic State-Korasan group operating in eastern Afghanistan has claimed similar attacks on the Taliban in the past.
The Taliban have been fighting IS-K since its appearance in Afghanistan in 2014.
IS-K claims some responsibility for recent attacks, including a suicide bombing of worshipers who killed about 100 people at a Shiite mosque in Kunduz last week.
