Jammu: A field day and awareness program on wheat no-tillage was conducted by the SKUAST-J Faculty of Agriculture under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana-Project “Basmati Rice-Demonstration of Wheat No-Tillage Techniques in the Wheat System” Farmers and extension workers in the agricultural sector.
The purpose of the program was to demonstrate the hands-on performance of zero-cultivated wheat harvested after the basmati rice harvest. We also held an exchange / awareness session on the benefits of zero-cultivated wheat, which is not only profitable but also a resource conservation technology.
The project’s BC Sharma, Director of Agriculture and PI, explained the benefits of no-till wheat, especially in the Basmati rice-wheat planting system, where wheat sowing is always delayed due to delayed harvests of basmati rice. He also emphasized the need to raise awareness among farmers about adopting no-till farming.
R. Puniya, Jr. Scientist, AICRP-Weed Management and Division of Agronomy discussed no-till wheat cultivation practices with farmers and field workers in the line sector. Dr. Amrishbeid, Chief Scientist and Node Officer of the Megaseed Project, has specifically announced wheat disease control to farmers and field workers in the line department. The program ended with a thank-you vote by AICRP-Weed Management R. Puniya and Jr. Scientist in the Agriculture Department of SKUAST Jammu. The program was organized according to all COVID-19 standard operating protocols and guidelines.
