Prime Minister Modi Criticizes DMK, Alleges Engagement in ‘Politics of Hatred and Division’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched another scathing attack on the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Wednesday, accusing the ruling party in Tamil Nadu of aligning with forces seeking to undermine investments in India.
Addressing a rally in Mettupalayam, Coimbatore, Modi criticized the DMK for allegedly hindering the country’s progress. He highlighted the BJP government’s initiative to establish a Defence Corridor in Tamil Nadu and questioned whether such development projects would ever materialize under the INDI alliance’s leadership.
Furthermore, Modi accused the Congress and DMK of shielding corruption and prioritizing divisive politics over Tamil Nadu’s development. He condemned the DMK’s history of fostering a culture of hatred and division, asserting that the BJP-led NDA would redouble its efforts to enhance the Nilgiris and Kongu regions’ prosperity.
The Prime Minister continued his onslaught by accusing the Congress-DMK alliance of neglecting marginalized communities, including scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and other backward classes (OBCs), by depriving them of basic amenities. He contrasted this with the BJP government’s commitment to providing housing, water, electricity, and free ration to millions, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds.
Modi also targeted the opposition INDI alliance, of which the DMK is a part, for undermining India’s capabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic. He highlighted the successful development and distribution of indigenous vaccines, emphasizing India’s resilience and self-reliance in combating the crisis.
In a bid to showcase the BJP’s inclusivity, Modi cited the historic election of Droupadi Murmu, a tribal woman, as India’s President in 2022. He criticized “family parties” for perpetuating dynastic politics and limiting opportunities for individuals from marginalized communities to hold high office.
With Tamil Nadu set to vote in a single-phase election on April 19, Modi’s remarks underscored the BJP’s determination to challenge the entrenched political forces in the state. The outcome of the election, slated for June 4, will be closely watched as it could have significant implications for the region’s political landscape.
