Pac-12 aims to build on the 2021 NCAA Tournament Run

The Pac-12 was added later in recent NCAA tournaments, with a declining number of teams and rarely going deep into the bracket.

Last season’s conference marked a major turning point, with three teams reaching the elite eight and UCLA playing in the final four, changing public perception while increasing the confidence of the entire league.

Now it’s time to move on to the next step of consistently going well in March.

Arizona coach Bobby Hurley said Wednesday at Pac-12 Media Day in San Francisco that he was really excited about the league’s achievements at the NCAA tournament. That’s what we’ve been talking about at head coach meetings for years. Reflect that success in the NCAA tournament. At our conference, people see us differently because of their success. There is momentum.

The Pac-12 was arguably the best conference of last year’s tournament, 13-5. UCLA, Southern California, and Oregon have all reached Elite Eight. Bruins lost to Gonzaga in a buzzer with Jalen Suggs’ bank-in-running 3-pointer in seconds to reach the NCAA Championship Game.

The conference, led by his favorite pre-season UCLA, was once again full of talent for the 2021-22 season, and last spring’s Deeplan increased confidence that teams throughout the league could do it.

Washington State University coach Kyle Smith said he learned that he had played two very tough matches and gave him great confidence, especially with Oregon State University and their ride quality. And just knowing it, I thought the league was good. We were exercising in the spring to gain that national respect.

All PAC-12

The first team of the 2021-22 Preseason All Pack 12 is a big team.

Instead of the usual 5 players on the first team, this year’s team has 10 and 5 players on the second team.

UCLA is led by three players: Johnny Juzan, Tyger Campbell, and Jaime Jack Jr. The first team also includes Warith Alatishe, Oregon, Marcus Bagley, Arizona, Evan Battey, Colorado, Bennedict Mathurin, Arizona, Isaiah Mobley, USC, and Will, Oregon. Noah Williams of the state.

Big duck

Oregon was forced to go with a small lineup for most of last season after a 6-foot-11 forward N’Faly Dante collapsed with a knee injury.

The ducks have more options than this season, Dante is expected to return, and four players are on the roster of 6-11 and above.

Oregon coach Dana Altman said he has the flexibility to deal with some matches that weren’t there a year ago. As a coaching staff, you like being able to play in different ways. I like being able to change it if something isn’t working. Those guys give us the flexibility to do it.

Oregon Expectations

Oregon State University was selected to finish last with Pac-12 in last year’s preseason vote and participated in the conference tournament as the sixth seed.

Beaver became one of the March Madness surprises, winning the Pac-12 tournament and reaching the first elite eight since 1966 as the 12th seed.

Now they are entering a new season with additional expectations.

Oregon security guard Jarod Lucas said he was happy with his run last season. I was happy last season. It was a great season, but here it’s been a month since the new season. We have the same idea, aiming to win every game and get better with daily practice.

Beaver was ranked 8th in this year’s preseason vote.

Battei was Colorado’s natural leader, but last season he was able to share some of his load with a veteran roster, including point guard McKinley Wright IV, one of the best players in program history. ..

Now that Wright and others are gone, the older giant becomes the unquestioned leader of a team that fills the role he still feels with new players.

Last year, as I say, through everyday practice, there were many seniors I didn’t have to hold their hands too much, Batty said. This year, I’m really trying to bend the line when to lead, when to let them understand it and let them learn. I’m fighting that urge, leading when I need it, and trying to grow them.
