Mumbai, September 15: Maharashtra Housing Minister Zitendra Awad told him on Wednesday as legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar was thinking of establishing a cricket academy and regaining the best land ever. He said the assigned government plan should be used. In a series of tweets, Awhad expressed disappointment with Gavaskar, who did not utilize the plot proposed by the Cricket Academy, even after 30 years of allocation.
I almost made the decision to cancel the allocation of 2,000 square meters of parcels in Pandora (East). Despite its huge size and great location, the proposed cricket academy hasn’t come there yet. Due to Gavaskull’s height and his significant contribution to the game, I did not cancel the assignment, the minister said.
I was ready to regain the plan with MHADA (State Housing Agency) and use it for some good purpose, Awhad said.
Without #sunilgavaskar as Minister of Housing, (I) would have canceled the assignment I was cing God at #SunilGavaskar, Awhad tweeted late Wednesday night. .. I can’t forget the day he left the stadium crying, he was put in a bowl cleanly by #PhilipsDefraitis, he added.
MHADA (Maharashtra Housing & Area Development Authority) has leased land to a trust launched by Gavaskar for the Cricket Academy in 1986, but the project has not progressed. The plot is assigned to the Sunil Gavaskar Cricket Foundation Trust.
