First Lady Jill Biden received medical treatment on Thursday to wash away debris from a puncture wound on her left foot, her spokesman said.
Michael LaRosa said his leg had a flat tire while Jill Biden was walking on the beach in Hawaii last weekend, but “it was unclear which object caused the flat tire.”
“It is hoped that the wounds will be clean, free of infections and healed well,” after treatment at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
President Joe Biden joined Walter Reed’s wife for the procedure. Bidens returned to the White House on Thursday night.
The incident happened last weekend before Jill Biden’s two official events in Hawaii, and she went after attending the start of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Larosa said.
During her stay in Hawaii, she visited the Pop-up COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic in Waipahu and then joined the military family for a barbecue at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.
