Israel bans entry from seven African countries due to new Covid-19 variant

Israel has announced that it will ban travelers from seven African countries after the detection of a new Covid-19 variant in South Africa. Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Health Minister Nitzan Howitz reported on Thursday in Southern Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia and Eswatini in a report of a highly mutated variant known as B.1.1529. Decided to list as “Red Country”. The agency reported.

“Foreigners from these countries will not be able to enter Israel,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.

Israeli citizens returning from trips to these countries said they would have to stay in a designated quarantine motel for seven days, even if they were fully vaccinated.

They are released after two negative PCR tests. According to the statement, travelers who refuse inspection should stay in quarantine for 12 days.

South African scientists said they have detected a new COVID-19 mutant and are still studying its effects.
