According to Dr. Nisha Pansare, Fertility Consultant at NovaIVF Fertility in Pune, diabetic females are prone to infection and damage to the genitals such as the fallopian tubes.

Hyperglycemia during pregnancy, or gestational diabetes, can lead to fetal miscarriage or birth defects. It can also cause preterm birth, large babies, miscarriage, and birth defects in babies.

Some simple and easy eating habits help women control their blood sugar levels.

  • Eat foods high in fiber. Incorporate fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and lentils into your diet.
  • Avoid oily foods, processed foods and canned foods as much as possible. Instead of packed juices, desserts, sweets, colas and sodas, you should opt for fresh homemade juices.
  • Reduce your salt intake.
  • Indulge in physical activity such as exercise and yoga to control your blood sugar and maintain your optimal weight.
