Indian men’s soccer team falls to 107th in the latest FIFA rankings

The Indian men’s soccer team fell short of second place in the latest FIFA rankings announced Thursday. India dropped in the rankings despite being undefeated in September. Igor Stimak’s men played a friendly match with Nepal in the first week of this month for the 2021 South Asian Football Federation (SAFF), which is scheduled to open in the Maldives next month.

India drew 1: 1 to Nepal in the first international friendly match at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu, but won the second match 2-1. Meanwhile, the Nepalese team remains at 168th in the latest FIFA rankings.

The Indian team will meet again with the SAFF Champions Nepal on the group stage of the league on October 10.

In addition to Nepal and India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Maldives will also participate in the SAFF Championship. Pakistan will miss the 13th edition of the tournament due to FIFA sanctions. Bhutan declined to participate because the government refused to travel abroad in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following India, we will move on to India’s SAFF rivals. Maldives (158) is the top team in the FIFA rankings of the SAFF Championship. Bangladesh has also fallen to 1st place, currently 189th in the FIFA rankings, but Sri Lanka is stable at 205.

Iran is the highest ranked Asian team in the FIFA rankings. Currently 22nd and Japan is 26th.
