2022 marks a milestone for Indian women’s football, with two major international events in India, the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022 and the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022. A new milestone will be achieved with the introduction of Indian clubs in the upcoming pilot tournament of the Asian Football Confederation, AFC Women’s Club Championship 2021, for the mega event.
The tournament will be held from October 30th to November 14th, 2021 with eight teams from eight countries participating. Group A (East) consists of representative clubs from Chinese Taipei, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, Group B (West) is set to feature clubs from India, IR Iran, Jordan and Uzbekistan, respectively. It will be represented by the Hero Indian Women’s League Champion.
AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das said the tournament would provide a “big boost” to Indian women’s football. “Indian clubs competing in the AFC Women’s Club Championship are a great opportunity to boost the growth of Indian women’s football.
