DC has found the latest superhero! “In the Heights” star Leslie Grace starred as Barbara Gordon in the upcoming HBO Max superhero movie “Batgirl.” According to Variety, in securing the lead role, Grace was Haley Lu Richardson, actor of Five Feet Apart, Isabella Merced, star of Dora and the Lost Gold City, and Zoey Deutch, actor of Setup It Up. And defeated some formidable candidates.
The filmmaking duo Adil El Arbi and Bilalfarer behind “Bad Boys for Life” will direct “Bat Girl”. The script is written by Christina Hodson, who is widely known for “Birds of Prey,” “Bumblebee,” and “The Flash.”
Shooting for the next project is scheduled to begin in November. The Batgirl character was first introduced in the cartoon under the name Betty Kane in 1961, but the most famous version of Batgirl is Barbara, the daughter of police commissioner Jim Gordon.
Popular roles have also been played by several other actors, including Alicia Silverstone in the 1997 movie Batman And Robin and Yvonne Craig on the television show aired in the 1960s. Based on Lin-Manuel Miranda’s stage musical of the same name, “In the Heights” was Grace’s first film.
In a movie that debuted in theaters and HBO Max in June, Grace portrayed the whip-smart Nina Rosary with casts including Anthony Ramos, Melissa Barrera, and Corey Hawkins.
Grace made a name for himself as a singer-songwriter, released two studio albums and was nominated for three Latin Grammy Awards. Currently, the actor is leading the adaptation of the Hollywood Holy Grail cartoon. The release date for “Bat Girl” hasn’t been set yet, but Warners has previously indicated that it could succumb to HBO Max in 2023.
