Madrid: IE University has announced that Lee Newman has been appointed Dean of IE Business School. Newman is the successor to Martin Böhm, who has been the Dean of the Program and then the Dean for the past nine years. Newman will begin his tenure in June of this year.
Newman joined IE University’s faculty in 2009 and the following year became the founding dean of the school now known as the IE School of Human Sciences and Technology (HST). As Dean of HST, Newman has successfully promoted school strategy and growth. It currently serves 1,500 students annually from more than 100 countries. He oversaw the development of HST’s 12 master’s programs and 5 bachelor’s degrees. These are all career-focused degrees taught in English and designed to prepare students for many new jobs that have arisen in the New Economy. These include programs for customer experience, talent development, positive leadership, business analytics and digital transformation.
Originally from the United States, Newman holds an interdisciplinary PhD in psychology and computer science from the University of Michigan, focusing on the relationship between neural processing and decision-making behavior in empirical learning. His research uses both experimental and computational methods. In addition to his PhD, Newman holds an MBA, Master of Technology and Policy from MIT, and a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Brown University. Newman has published in journals such as neuroscientists and business science in the fields of cognitive neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and business management.
Prior to joining IE, he was Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company in Chicago, managing projects focused on reengineering operational and organizational processes such as mining, manufacturing and consumer goods. In the first few years of the internet boom of the 1990s, he founded (and later sold) two successful tech startups. One of the first social media platforms and an innovative company offering ERP services offered over the internet.
