Facebook removed a video by Brazilian President Jail Bolsonaro from the platform late Sunday. In this video, the far-right leader mistakenly claimed that the COVID-19 vaccine was associated with the development of AIDS. “Our policy does not allow claims that the COVID-19 vaccine can kill or cause serious harm,” a Facebook spokeswoman said on Monday.

According to the Joint United Nations Program on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS), the COVID-19 vaccine, approved by health regulators, is safe for most people, including those who live with HIV, the virus that causes the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome AIDS.

In July, Alphabet was removed from Bolsonaro’s YouTube channel video. The Brazilian president recommended the use of hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin for COVID-19, but there is scientific evidence that these drugs are ineffective in treating the disease.

Since then, Bolsonaro has avoided naming both drugs live, stating that the video may be deleted and advocating a general “early treatment” for COVID-19.
