TVS Motor Company has announced a brand new 125 cc motorcycle. It claims to offer the best of both worlds. Sporty performance and modest running costs. TVS Raider, as the name implies, shows that TVS Motor Company has returned to the 125cc motorcycle segment. Based on a completely new ground-up platform, the all-new TVS Raider will be sold in the domestic market, but will also be an important product for the TVS Motor Company’s exports, especially in the Southeast Asian and Latin American markets.

The TVS Raider is a great looking bike. And given the segment in which it is located, it’s probably one of the more stylish, premium and sporty looking products in its class. The new headlights with the fairly noticeable LED DRL (Daytime Running Lights) remain the highlight. It’s a little over-the-top, but definitely worth noting.

The overall design features a carved fuel tank with sharp creases, adding muscle to the design and looking along the styling of a 150 cc motorcycle rather than a 125. LED taillights with a more toned down tail section complete the design. It’s a handsome looking bike and certainly looks upscale. Raiders are available in four colors: Firely Yellow, Striking Red, Blazing Blue, and Wicked Black.
Engine and performance
The Raider is powered by a brand new 124.8 cc air-cooled and oil-cooled 3-valve engine that produces 11.2bhp at 7,500rpm and 11.2Nm at 6,000rpm and comes with a 5-speed gearbox. Acceleration from 0 to 60kmph is the claimed 5.9 seconds.
Technology and ergonomics
The bike also has two riding modes, eco and power, which are said to provide 10% more power at the top end. The instrument console has a negative LCD screen with a long list of readings, including three trip meters, a distance indicator to the sky, an integrated starter generator indicator, and an average speed recorder. The bike also has a side stand cutoff switch as a safety feature. Bluetooth connectivity with the TVS SmartXonnect system is provided in a top spec variant that captures the TFT screen.
The TVS Raider is in a fairly upright riding position, but the foot pegs are slightly rear-set to provide a sporty yet comfortable riding position. The split seat design provides great surface area and looks great while providing great comfort for both the rider and the pillion. The wide handlebars provide not only comfort but also excellent handling leverage.
Cycle parts & suspension
The Raider runs on 17-inch cast alloy wheels with tubeless tires, a telescopic front fork and a 5-step preload adjustable gas-charged rear monoshock. The brakes can be selected from 130mm front drums or 240mm front discs and 130mm rear drums. Synchronous braking technology is basically a combined braking system that activates both brakes by simply pressing the rear pedal. Or the front brake lever.
Price and variation
TVS Raiders are currently available in drum brake variations for £ 77,500 (in front of the showroom) and disc brake variations up to £ 85,469 (in front of the showroom). A top-spec raider with a TFT instrument console with SmartXonnect Bluetooth connectivity hasn’t been introduced yet, but it costs even more, probably around £ 90,000 (former showroom).
