European Commission proposes 9-month efficacy of Covid-19 vaccination

Full vaccination against Covid-19 will allow European Union (EU) citizens to move freely within the block for nine months starting from the date of the last shot, said Didier Lendels of the European Justice Commission. Told. According to the Xinhua News Agency, Thursday’s Lendels offered a European Commission proposal to update travel measures during a pandemic.

The proposal to give the complete vaccination scheme a lifetime takes into account the latest risk assessment by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) announced the day before, and the vaccine against Covid-19 is efficient after 6 months. Indicates that

The 9-month period proposed by the European Commission will give EU member states an additional 3 months to administer the booster dose on time. Reynders said booster efficacy would be assessed once sufficient data were collected, but it is likely to be longer than primary vaccination.

According to the proposal, this standard validity of vaccination certificates should guarantee a coordinated approach to traveling within the EU.

“Members should not reject vaccination certificates issued within nine months of the last dose of primary vaccination,” the European Commission said in a press release.

“Member States must immediately take all necessary steps to ensure access to vaccinations for population groups whose previously issued vaccination certificates are approaching the 9-month limit.” The committee added.

This means that travel measures will switch from an area-based approach to an individual-based approach. Travelers presenting their Covid-19 certificate with a full vaccination of less than 9 months should be free to travel within the EU no matter where they come from.

The ECDC map comes from the dark red zone and remains relevant to travelers who have not been vaccinated or have not recovered from their illness. According to the press release, they must be tested before departure and quarantined upon arrival.

The European Commission expected that the proposal would be adopted shortly by the Council of the European Union and come into effect in January 2022.
