Equity Mutual Fund Inflows Increase 3% to ₹38,239.16 Crore in August: AMFI

Net inflows into equity mutual fund schemes rose by 3% month-on-month to ₹38,239.16 crore in August, up from ₹37,113.39 crore in July. This marks the second highest monthly inflow into equity mutual funds, following a record high of ₹40,608.19 crore in June.

Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) contributions reached an all-time high of ₹23,547 crore in August, up from ₹23,332 crore in July.

Overall net inflows into the mutual fund industry fell by about 43% to ₹1.08 lakh crore in August, down from ₹1.89 lakh crore in July, largely due to a 62% drop in inflows into debt mutual funds.

The mutual fund industry’s total net assets under management (AUM) climbed to ₹66.7 lakh crore in August, up from ₹64.96 lakh crore in July.

“The industry’s assets reached a new peak of ₹66.7 lakh crore by the end of August 2024. The positive inflows and folio count surpassing 20 crore reflect strong investor confidence and growing appreciation for mutual funds as a preferred investment option,” said Venkat Chalasani, Chief Executive of AMFI.

Retail AUM, which includes equity, hybrid, and solution-oriented schemes, totaled ₹39,27,594 crore in August, while net AUM for equity mutual funds stood at ₹30.09 lakh crore.

Among equity schemes, sectoral/thematic funds saw the highest inflows at ₹18,117.18 crore in August, compared to ₹18,386.35 crore in July. Flexicap funds attracted ₹3,513.16 crore.

Inflows into small-cap and mid-cap funds were ₹3,209.33 crore and ₹3,054.68 crore, respectively, up from ₹2,109.2 crore and ₹1,644.22 crore in the previous month. Large-cap funds received inflows of ₹2,636.86 crore.

Debt mutual fund inflows dropped to ₹45,169.36 crore in August from ₹1,19,587.6 crore in July. Net inflows into overnight funds were ₹15,105.93 crore, liquid funds saw inflows of ₹13,594.87 crore compared to ₹70,060.88 crore in July, and money market funds had inflows of ₹10,093.26 crore.

Among debt mutual funds, outflows were observed in banking and PSU funds at ₹1,549.99 crore and floater funds at ₹676.88 crore.

Net inflows into hybrid funds moderated to ₹10,005.3 crore in August from ₹17,436.09 crore in July. Index funds saw inflows of ₹3,247.24 crore, and gold ETFs attracted ₹1,611.38 crore.

The number of new SIPs registered in August was 63.93 lakh. The SIP AUM reached a record ₹13.38 lakh crore, up from ₹13.09 lakh crore in the previous month, and the number of SIP accounts hit an all-time high of 9.61 crore compared to 9.33 crore in July.

“The continued increase in SIP contributions, reaching ₹23,547 crore in August 2024, underscores the growing investor preference for disciplined and long-term wealth accumulation,” Chalasani added.
