“Economically weak section” quarter rupee 80,000 rupees annual income standard confirmed: Center tells SC

The Center notified the Supreme Court on Thursday that it has decided to revise the criteria that define economically weak sections by reviewing the annual income standard of Rs 80,000 for reservations at NEET. ..

The Center also informed the Supreme Court that the current standards for the “economically weak section” will be revised and decisions on the new standards will be made within four weeks. By the current definition, candidates with a family income of less than Rs 80,000 per year are within the EWS quota.

The Supreme Court told the Center that the EWS allocation is a very valid and progressive type of booking and the state must support the Center in its efforts.

The Supreme Court has heard a series of punishments against the July 29 notice of the Center and the Medical Counseling Commission (MCC).

The government further stated that NEET counseling would be postponed for another four weeks until the Commission decided on the criteria for determining the EWS category.
