BMW aims to turn 20% of its vehicles into electric vehicles by 2023

Frankfurt: German luxury car maker BMW plans to boost production of electric vehicles, CEO Oliver Zipse told the German daily newspaper Augsburger Allgemeine.

“We are significantly increasing the number of electric vehicles. Between 2021 and 2023, we plan to produce 250,000 more electric vehicles than originally planned,” Zipse said in a pre-release version. Said to the Monday edition of the newspaper.

BMW wants to have an electric engine in every five cars it sells by 2023, Zipse said.

The manager also repeated his call to speed up the expansion of the charging infrastructure.

“As of today, we need to run 15,000 private charging points and about 1,300 public charging points each week. Unfortunately, we’re far from that,” he told the paper.
