Biden and Xi will speak as the US warns of China’s military aid to Moscow. Ukraine says the basic food stock is enough for years

countries met again for peace talks, but said their positions remained very different.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Thursday that he agreed with President Joe Biden that war crimes had been committed in Ukraine and that US experts were gathering evidence to prove it.

Biden told reporters earlier in the day that he believed Russian President Vladimir Putin was a “war criminal,” but the White House later said no formal decision had been made on possible international law violations since Russia’s February 24 invasion of Ukraine. .

“Personally, I agree,” Blinken told a news conference at the State Department. “Deliberate targeting of civilians is a war crime,” Blinken said, adding that he “finds it difficult to conclude that the Russians are doing differently” after the devastation of recent weeks.

“President Joe Biden will make it clear to Chinese President Xi Jinping on the phone on Friday that Beijing ‘will take responsibility for any action it takes to support Russian aggression and we will not hesitate to impose costs,'” Blinken told reporters. .

More than 700 civilians – including 52 children – have been killed in Ukraine since the Russian invasion three weeks ago, but the “actual number is probably much higher,” UN Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo told the Security Council on Thursday.

“Most of these victims were caused by the use of explosive weapons in residential areas with a large impact area. “Hundreds of apartment buildings have been destroyed or destroyed, as well as hospitals and schools,” DiCarlo said.

He told the 15-member council that the UN human rights agency had recorded 726 deaths, including 52 children and 1,174 injured, including 63 children, between February 24 and March 15. DiCarlo did not specify who is to blame.
