Bajaj Freedom Debuts in India with Starting Price of Rs 95,000

The Bajaj Freedom has been introduced in India with prices starting at Rs 95,000. It marks the world’s first CNG motorcycle and is offered in three variants: Freedom 125 Disc LED, Freedom 125 Drum LED, and Freedom 125 Drum. The higher-end variants are priced at Rs 1.10 lakh and Rs 1.05 lakh respectively, all ex-showroom.

This innovative motorcycle features a centrally positioned 2kg CNG tank for optimized weight distribution, complemented by a 2-litre petrol tank located above and forward of the CNG tank. The combined capacity gives it an approximate range of 330km. Riders can switch between CNG and petrol with a single switch, utilizing a common filler cap for both fuels.

Powering the Bajaj Freedom is a 125cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine generating 9.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 9.7Nm at 5,000rpm, paired with a five-speed gearbox.

In terms of design, the Bajaj Freedom emphasizes functionality while maintaining a distinct appearance compared to other commuter motorcycles. It features an LED headlight in the higher variants, a dirt bike style fuel tank, an elongated seat claimed to be the longest in its segment, and a sleek tail section. Notably, it also includes a digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity.

Underneath its bodywork, the motorcycle is built on a tubular trellis frame suspended by a telescopic fork and a linked monoshock. It rides on a 17-inch front wheel and 16-inch rear wheel, with braking handled by a disc brake at the front and either a drum or disc brake at the rear, depending on the variant.

The launch of the Bajaj Freedom aims to redefine economical commuting, and its reception in the market will be closely watched. Bookings are now open through the Bajaj website and dealerships, with availability starting in Maharashtra and Gujarat within a month.
