Legendary badminton player Prakash Padukorn was admitted to a hospital in Bangalore after a positive Covid-19 test. Padukorn tested positive for the virus with his wife and second daughter (Anisha), but the former badminton player needed to be hospitalized after a long fever.
According to Badminton coach Bimalkmal, who is also the director of the Badminton Academy in Bangalore, Prakashpadukorn, 65, is likely to be discharged this week and is recovering well from Covid-19.
“About 10 days ago, Prakash, his wife (Ujjala) and second daughter (Anisha) developed symptoms and were tested and the results were positive,” Vimal Kumar told the Indian Pretrust.
“They were isolated, but the fever of Prakash did not go down after a week, so he was admitted to a hospital here in Bangalore last Saturday. He’s okay now. All his parameters are fine. , My wife and daughter are at home and he will be discharged in a couple of days. “
One of the most respected figures in world badminton, Padukorn appeared as a role model for Indian sports during play in the 1970s and 1980s. Padukone was the first Indian to win the title of the British Championship, and after winning the bronze medal in the 1983 edition, the first from the country won the medal in the World Championship.
He was also the first Indian to be ranked number one in the world after achieving a feat in 1980 after winning consecutive titles at the Denmark Open, the British Championship and the Swedish Open.
After retiring in 1991, Padukone was president of the Badminton Association of India (BAI). He was also the coach of the Indian team from 1993 to 1996.
