Lexington, Kentucky: Shakira Austin scored 22 points and 12 rebounds, Madison Scott double-doubled, and Mississippi beat 19th Kentucky for the second time this season, winning 73-69 on Sunday.
With two poor offensive performances against the rebels who won only four conference games, Wildcats fell to five seeds bye-bye only once in next week’s Southeastern Conference tournament.
Donetta Johnson scored 14 points on Oremis (10-10, 4-10 SEC), while Scott and Snadda Collins both scored 12. By playing it became 64-58.
Oremis was 9 out of 10 from the last-minute foul line and 14 out of 15 in the fourth quarter.
Rhyne Howard scored 21 points and scored 16 rebounds, the highest in his career in Kentucky (16-10, 9-6). She had 26 and 10 at the first meeting, but in the two games she combined 13 of 51 from the floor and shot 15 of 2 from a range of 3 points.
Chasity Patterson scored 18 points on Wildcats, with Wildcats averaging 77.6 points, shooting 45.6% overall and 37% from a range of 3 points at home.
Olemis reduced Kentucky from a 3-point range to 5 of 17 and 33.3% overall (22 of 66). In previous 72-60 victories, Wildcats were 6 of 26 from a distance and shot 31.8% (21 of 66).
With a 15-2 run, Kentucky led 22-11 in the second half of the first quarter. Oremis was within 31-25 by scoring the last 5 points in half. The rebels continued to lay up Johnson three times in the second half, followed by Collins 3 twice, leading 37-31.
