With the new Ninja H2SX, Kawasaki will join BMW, KTM, Ducati and more with a radar-based system.
Kawasaki is currently working on a new generation of Ninja H2 SX, and it was discovered that the same test mule has recently been tested somewhere in Japan. According to a recent report, the new Ninja H2 SX will be equipped with a radar-based support system from the end of 2021.
Bosch radar-based system
From recent spy shots, for the first time in a radar-based system, you can find a small camera hidden under the windshield. In addition, a small sensor unit is located under the headlights. To accommodate these inclusions, Japanese bike makers have made some updates to the front fascia.
In 2019, Kawasaki announced a partnership with Bosch to equip premium motorcycles with radar-based systems. Therefore, it makes sense to deploy it in one of the flagship products that are already packed with features.
Kawasaki is not the only one to offer this technology in the near future. Manufacturers such as KTM, BMW and Ducati are also announcing similar Bosch technology in their respective products, including the 1290 Super Adventure S, R 1250 RT and Multi Strada V4.
Features and updated design
The main function of this technology is to provide radar-based adaptive cruise control to facilitate long-distance touring. In addition to this new feature, other new Creature Comfort will be offered. For example, a fully digitized TFT instrument cluster replaces the previous partial analog and partial digital consoles. The safety kit consists of adaptive distance and speed control, collision warning and blind spot assistant.
With the new features, it has brought about subtle changes in styling, similar to front fascia. Kawasaki has adjusted the fairing, windshield and air ducts to match the front-end cameras and sensors. Contrary to recent convention, the rear license plate holder is quite long and holds the license plate much lower.
This adds speculation that Japanese superbike brands may also offer backward-facing radar-based systems such as the Multistrada V4. Or maybe Kawasaki wants to improve the droplet protection of the pillion.
Mechanically, the next Ninja H2SX is no different from its predecessor. It is probably backed by the same architecture and offers the same hardware setup. Power is drawn from a Euro-5 compliant 998cc water-cooled in-line 4-cylinder engine. This produced 200PS of power and a peak torque of 137.3Nm in the previous iteration.
The Ninja h2SX is scheduled to debut at the end of this year and will be available from the beginning of next year. It’s too early to comment on whether to arrive on the Indian coast, but I hope to arrive.
